Road Construction: MLK Bridge Closure | Transportation
The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that the Martin Luther King (MLK) Bridge will be closed to all traffic beginning at 9:00 p.m. on Friday, October 14, 2011, weather permitting.
The closure is needed to seal the bridge deck surface and other minor bridge work items. Traffic control devices, including permanent and mobile electronic message boards, will be utilized to assist motorists making their way around the work zone. Motorists are asked to use alternative routes such as the Poplar Street Bridge or the Eads Bridge and to allow additional time to travel through the area.
Motorists are also urged to be patient, reduce speed, and use caution when traveling through the area as traffic patterns and travel times may be affected. All lanes are expected to be opened by 5:00 a.m. on Monday, October 17, 2011. The contractor on the project is Edwards-Kamadulski, LLC of East St. Louis, Illinois.
