Mother's Boyfriend Charged With Beating Baby

A man has been charged for allegedly abusing a baby south of Trenton, Illinois.

According to Clinton County Sheriff Mike Kreke, an ambulance was dispatched for a child that was conscious and breathing, but had fallen out of his crib.

When the child arrived to St. Joseph’s in Breese, it was determined that the injuries were not consistent with falling out of a crib.

The baby was transferred to Cardinal Glennon with head trauma and injuries to his lower extremities. No bones were broke. The baby is expected to recover.

Police were contacted and an investigation began. Investigators narrowed down that the only two people in the home at the time were a younger child and the boyfriend of the child’s mother.

James Caskey, 23, admitted to causing the injuries to the child.

He was arrested and charged with aggravated battery to a child.   His bond is set at $250,000.
